WASHINGTON LOOP HOMEOWNERS
PRESERVATION
ASSOCIATION, INC.
A Florida not for profit corporation
To all Washington Loop Area Homeowners,
The beautiful area that we live in is being threatened by the mining industry. Currently, no less than six dirt mines are either permitted or in the process of being permitted on the Loop. These, and the others that will surely follow, will generate a daily traffic usage increase on the Loop of thousands of dump truck trips. This will create countless traffic and safety concerns for us all. The excavation sites will destroy miles of environmentally sensitive land and will further threaten the several endangered wildlife species that inhabit the area. The excavation sites will negatively impact our property values, which could plummet due to a land use that is inconsistent with our Agricultural Estates Zoning.
As a direct result of the
foregoing, a group of Washington Loop homeowners have formed the Washington Loop
Homeowners Preservation Association. Our primary goal is to prevent excavation
sites in and around the Washington Loop area by using the legal means available
to us in order to preserve our home values.
To do this, we will need everyone’s help. The mining industry is a well established, lawyer-represented group with limitless financial means, and we will need to meet them head on. We already have the support of two special area groups: The Greater Charlotte Harbor Group of the Sierra Club and The Conservancy of Southwest Florida. In the end we will need to have legal representation sufficient to be able to confront the mining industry in court and quality legal representation is not cheap. Thus, we will need financial assistance from everyone interested in stopping this industry from ruining the Loop.
area should want to help. The mining
industry is targeting unused or vacant land. We expect them to dig millions of
cubic yards of dirt that could be as much as seventy feet deep. The excavation
will continue for years and will include other offensive items like the
appearance of large cranes, construction trailers, 30-foot high mounds of dirt
and the constant smell of diesel fuel. The things that make our zoning district
special will be destroyed and, as thanks, our property values will plummet.
To help out, we ask that you please send a contribution to the Washington Loop Homeowners Preservation Association (WLHPA). The contribution should be mailed to WLHPA, P.O. Box 512132, Punta Gorda, FL, 33951-2132. Our group meets on a regular basis and is led by Chuck Kindle, President, and Bob Boehm Vice-President.

We thank you for your time and hopefully your contribution.
Sincerely,
Chuck Kindle
President, WLHPA
